About the Study Group
Knee dislocations and multiligament knee injuries are rare but potentially devastating injuries associated with significant ligamentous, neurovascular, and functional complications.

Because of their rarity, it is difficult for individual institutions to generate sufficient patient numbers to answer important clinical and scientific questions independently. International collaboration and multicentre research are therefore essential to improving understanding, treatment strategies, rehabilitation, and patient outcomes.

The International Knee Dislocation Study Group (IKDSG) was established to create a collaborative network of clinicians and researchers dedicated to advancing the care of these injuries through research, education, discussion, and consensus-building.

History
Origins
A group of academic orthopaedic surgeons with a clinical and publication interest in knee dislocations and multiligament knee injuries collaborated on major Delphi studies published in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery (JBJS). From these collaborations emerged a core international network of surgeons and researchers.
First in-person meeting
The first in-person IKDSG meeting was held in Toronto, Canada on April 5–6, 2024, bringing together the founding members for scientific presentations, discussions, and collaborative planning.
Virtual Annual Meeting & Incorporation
A virtual annual meeting was held in 2025 to maintain momentum and collaboration between biennial in-person meetings. In late 2025, IKDSG was formally incorporated as a nonprofit organization and obtained 501(c)(3) charitable status.
Second Biennial Meeting
The second biennial IKDSG meeting is scheduled for May 1–2, 2026, in Toronto, Canada, building on the foundation of the inaugural meeting and the growing international membership.

We aim to stimulate the dispersal of collective ideas to a wide range of clinical environments and provide opportunities for discussion on differing clinical resources and recommendations to meet these challenges.
